MEC LEHARI NOTES SPECIAL TRIBUNAL JUDGMENT

The MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, Sello Lehari notes the judgment of the Special Tribunal which was brought by Special Investigating Unit (SIU).

The judgment orders that the scholar transport service provider pay the Department the inflated claims for providing transportation to learners. The said service provider had a contract with the Department from October 2010 and June 2017.

In noting the judgement, MEC Lehari said he believes this will serve to encourage all businesses to be sincere.

“We wish to encourage all those who have contracts with the Department to conduct their business honestly and claim what is due to them," said Lehari.

The Department indicated that there are other similar cases and will be pursued similarly to ensure that fiscal adverse audit findings are minimised.
